Explore The Sustainability of Our Vegetable-Tanned Leather

Unlike conventional tanning methods that use harmful chemicals, vegetable tanning relies on natural tannins from plants like oak and chestnut. It is a safer and eco-friendly choice, aligning with MARK / GIUSTI's commitment to a greener future. Our tannery is located in Tuscany and is a founding member of the "Genuine Italian Vegetable Tanned Leather Consortium."

NATURAL DYEING: A PALETTE FROM NATURE

Vegetable-tanned leather derives its unique colours from natural sources, such as oak and chestnut tannins. Unlike synthetic dyes, which can harm the environment, these natural dyes come from renewable plant extracts. They not only give leather its distinctive hues but also offer antioxidant, antibiotic, and antibacterial properties, adding another layer of eco consciousness to each piece.

MADE IN TUSCANY: AN ECO-FRIENDLY HUB

The Consortium operates in Tuscany, where its associated tanneries work harmoniously with the environment. This production district is a beacon of sustainability, excelling in technological advancements while ensuring the eco-friendly production of vegetable-tanned leather.

CIRCULAR ECONOMY: WASTE BECOMES RAW MATERIAL

In line with the principles of the circular economy, the Consortium's tanneries utilize centralized treatment plants, transforming waste from various processing steps into useful raw materials for other supply chains. This resource-efficient approach minimizes waste and maximizes sustainability.

CERTIFIED VEGETABLE TANNED LEATHER

At MARK/GIUSTI, we pride ourselves on using certified vegetable-tanned leather that is traced, audited, and numbered by the Consorzio Vera Pelle Italiana Conciata al Vegetale. Each piece of leather is dyed in our exclusive color tones, ensuring that every shade is unique to our brand, even our black tone.

This commitment to exclusivity and quality means that our leather cannot be found anywhere else, adding to the distinctive character of our creations. Our leather is tanned using natural tannins from sustainably managed forests and is PEFC Chain of Custody certified, reflecting our dedication to sustainable and ethical practices.
